1998年，Metalcore乐团Overcast解散后，贝司手Mike D’Antonio想要组织一个结合硬核朋克与重金属的新团，隔年找来Aftershock的双吉他手团员Adam Dutkiewicz以及Joel Stroetzel共同创作演出，最后邀请Jesse Leach担任主唱一职后，Killswitch Engage正式宣告成军。

1 W- S0 o/ w6 z" H0 Q! t4 r6 X2000年推出独立厂牌的首张同名专辑，就在多加入一名成员Tom Gomes担任鼓手后，2002年进入Roadrunner后问世《Alive Or Just Breathing》，在没有强力宣传下大破十余万销售量，深受地下独立乐界好评赞誉。换上新任主唱Howard Jones以及新任鼓手Justin Foley顺势推出《The End Of Heartache》，首周便空降全美流行专辑榜Top21位置，凶猛的作品也成为美国摔角WWE与ECW等选手最爱。4 n' P% N' M# @8 l) @1 m$ h

( a$ ~, ~% [& i! t, g2 }整张专辑给人感觉整体性非常强但又不会相互混乱。尽管歌曲的内容大部分是控诉、愤怒，但是你听到的更多的是背后的无奈和绝望。这很大程度上要归功于主唱Howard Jones。他在压嗓怒吼时给人感觉非常爽快，不像Lamb of God的主唱Blythe或者God Forbid的主唱Byron Davis那样给人那样低沉、混浊。当他转到清嗓部分又衔接的很流畅，这时声音非常嘹亮、空旷，而且歌词的结尾出经常有少许颤音，这个时候每个人都会被那悲伤的气氛感动。* P& }9 S6 a1 n2 L: N6 P
