Dj Shadow原名Josh Davis，来自三藩市，James听过他在美国公司Hollywood Basic所发表的作品后，把他带到英国，罗至Mo’Wax旗下，成为Mo’Wax的开国功臣。 James曾跟不同的音乐类型的厂牌合作过，像Warp，Cup Of Tea，Ninja Tune等，喜欢Trip Hop的乐迷一定很熟悉这三个厂牌，这三个厂牌旗下的乐队多少都和Trip Hop有些相关，Warp旗下的Red Snapper的部分作品就有点接近Trip Hop。 作为较早一批玩实验Hip Hop的DJ，Dj Shadow同样拒绝了讨好大众的Rap，而是进一步放慢鼓机的节奏，并且喜欢加入Jazz音乐元素，这点对后来的instrumental Hip Hop的DJ们等人都产生了很大的影响。
