Brandy是上世纪90年代美国流行乐坛涌现出的一大批少女R&B歌手中的一位杰出代表，但是她又不同于Monica，Ashanti，Mya等同时代歌手，Brandy不仅是一名出色的歌手，同时还是一名多栖明星，她在电视剧节目中也有着出色的发挥。和90年代众多出色的少女R&B歌手们一样，Brandy最早也是一位少年得志的童星。1979年2月11日，Brandy出生在美国密西西比州的McComb市，全名Brandy Norwood。虽然出生在美国南方的密西西比州，但是Brandy却成长于西海岸的加利福尼亚州，在这里，她的演唱才华才第一次为人们所注意。也正是在这里，她第一次有了公开展示自己的机会，但是并不是演唱，而是表演。Brandy出现在电视节目中，不久之后在美国广播公司(ABC)情景喜剧《Thea》中的表演让她获得了发行自己第一张个人专辑的机会，这一年的Brandy不到15岁。 进入事业颠峰的Brandy并没有趁热发行第二张个人专辑，而是再度亮相荧屏，加盟了Fox电视台的电视剧《Moesha》的演出，随后在1997年又出演了迪斯尼公司的电视电影《Cinderella》一举成为了最成功的电视作品之一。直到此时，Brandy才开始了她新专辑的工作。1998年，19岁的Brandy倍受期待的第二张专辑《Never Say Never》终于发行，此时距她首张专辑发行已过了四年。这张专辑的成功是有目共睹的，发行首周，这张专辑就以16万张的销量在Billboard 200专辑榜上名列亚军，并且最终的全美销量超过450万张，而其中的单曲则为Brandy赢得了更多的荣誉。由Brandy和Monica共同演唱的单曲《The Boy Is Mine》成为Brandy的首支Hot 100单曲榜冠军单曲，这首经典单曲还为Brandy赢得了第41届格莱美奖最佳R&B组合奖(Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal)。这张专辑里的另外一首单曲《Have You Ever?》也成为了Brandy的第二首Hot 100单曲榜冠军单曲，此外，单曲《Almost Doesn t Count》名列排行榜第16位。 尽管专辑《Never Say Never》取得巨大成功，但是此后四年时间里，Brandy一直没有更大作为，直到2002年，她才发行了第三张个人专辑《Full Moon》。虽然这张专辑开头不错，再度位居Billboard 200专辑榜亚军，并且《What About Us?》和《Full Moon》两首单曲分别名列Hot 100单曲榜的第7和第18位，但是后劲乏力，最终销量只是勉强达到了白金。
